This beautiful new home overlooking the Carrick Roads is set into the hillside, and embraces the landscape with its natural stone cladding to the ground floor. The cedar cladding above it will fade through silver to a gentle grey, matching with the window treatments, and settling perfectly in its environment.
The hillside location created significant challenges, and the extended timeframe and cost of the project is due to the excavations and pilings required to anchor the property, and maintain the surrounding ground. The location also allowed for a very discrete road-side profile, and huge open spaces on the river side of the house. The terrace area was enlarged, during the course of the build, giving an excellent view of sunsets and river life.
While new to the area, our clients have worked hard to become part of their community, including joining a local watersports group. They asked for direct stepped access to the waterfront, to allow them to launch their kayaks easily, and take full advantage of their location.
Wide doorways, level access and a lift allow for the future accessibility needs of family members, and ensure that this amazing property will be a forever home for the family.
Our clients were new to building an entire house, and unsure where they wanted the design to go. Within some broad criteria, they were very happy to take Richards’ advice and suggestions, and are delighted with the end result, recommending us to their connections.
