One of the fears, when having any building work done, is builders, and their materials, tools and equipment, making a right mess of your beautiful garden.
Let us set your mind at rest, with how we can protect your outdoor spaces while we work.

For many of our customers, especially those having work done on their existing home, protecting their garden is of high importance. If you’ve lived in the property for years, you could well have invested hundreds of hours in making your garden just how you want it, and the last thing you need is a to have to start again from scratch once we’ve gone. (The pic below is Tresco Abbey Gardens, and we’ve not worked there, but just imagine!)
Commitment to care
We work hard to ensure that we make minimal impact on your garden.
There are a few limitations – if we’re extending, then there will be some impact on the area we’re expanding into, and the ground around it. We can’t make a straight cut in the lawn and have a brand new structure rise from it – it doesn’t quite work like that.
We also need a certain amount of space for our site office and storage of our tools, and the machinery and equipment we will be using, including scaffolding. However, we have worked on very tight sites in the past, where we have operated a satellite site, where the deliveries are made, the tools are stored, the machinery is parked, etc. This minimises the disruption on the main site, and therefore the damage to your lawn.
Planning in advance
If, when we start our conversation with you, you make sure we know that your garden is precious to you, or certain elements are important, then we will make that a fundamental part of our planning. Which trees must be worked around, which structures must remain, and so on, will be written in to the earliest stages, and carried forward. All contractors working on the site will see those instructions, and we will do our best to protect the elements that matter to you.
We can work around ponds, trees, rockeries, veg patches and lawns, if we know that we need to. We have built structures to enclose fragile plants or cover ponds to protect the residents, we’ve carefully plotted scaffolding layouts to avoid certain garden features, and made sure that deliveries, skips, and vans know to avoid the lawn/flower bed/veg patch on any number of sites.
National Trust Penrose estate
If you think you might be being too fussy, let us tell you a story from our renovation work on Bar Lodge, on the Penrose Estate, which is a National Trust property near Helston.
There are elements of that Arts and Crafts style property that are Listed – including the balustrade to the front of the property. So we removed that, stored it safely while we worked, and replaced it at the end.
We were also specifically asked to leave the moss on the front wall as it was, no cleaning it up at all, so that it looked untouched once we had finished!
Commercial work
If you are a commercial client, or an agent for a business or organisation, then we will work as carefully with your property as with a private homeowner. Or maybe even more so, to preserve your duty of care to the public and your customers.
When we worked on the outdoor stage area in Kimberley Park, (below) the general public was still accessing and enjoying the park while we were carrying out the construction, so we put a significant amount of effort into ensuring their safety at all times. Please talk to us about any complicated garden-related issues you may be struggling to resolve. You will hopefully be pleasantly surprised by our creative problem solving, and care.
