Chris first discovered that a childhood love of designing buildings could be a profession during a work experience week at school, and is now involved in the design and technical specifications of all projects for Richards. With his meticulous oversight, you can trust that every design decision has been carefully considered, balancing cost with the creation of life-enhancing spaces.
Chris came to Richards after 13 years with CSA Architects in Truro, where he undertook the technical design of the MD’s carbon-neutral home, as well as working on several award-winning domestic and commercial projects. There are still some projects in Richards’ work stream that Chris worked on with CSA, and is now helping see to completion.
The role of Architectural Technologist is to ensure that designs are buildable, and that the design doesn’t create hurdles for them to overcome. One of Chris’s strengths is that he is inquisitive, and will investigate all the details of a project, material, or design feature, to ensure the best outcome for the client, the person who will be living in or using the property when it is finished. He says that he hates unresolved niggles, and will endeavour to get ahead of them in the design stages, so they don’t ever materialise on-site.
Outside of work, Chris and his partner work with the council & a local charity to operate a guesthouse in Newquay which provides temporary accommodation for long-term street-homeless people. While he enjoys the revolving door of people and pets at home, aided by his partners’ family living next door, he tends to holiday in isolated (sometimes Cornish) cottages to catch his breath!
